Who is a candidate for full mouth dental implants?

Patients who fit into this treatment category are those patients who have severely compromised teeth, patients who have no teeth and patients who wear dentures. Dental implants are the closest possible and longest lasting replacement to missing teeth. They act and function like a natural tooth or teeth, restoring your physical and mental health.

The Step-by Step Procedure

The procedure of getting full-mouth implants is usually done in stages.

  • Step 1: Initial Consultation is usually done at the clinic with the patient and the doctor discussing the different types of treatment options, what to expect while the treatment is ongoing. Also the technical aspects of the patients interarch space( space between the jaws for the final prosthesis decides the type of final prosthesis and any modifications to be made during the surgery, the smile line( to determine the amount of teeth showing when a person smiles fully, to avoid any transition visibilty between the gums and the final teeth). The patients general health is also discussed to assess if he or she is the right candidate
  • Step 2: Planning and Scans – A Cone Beam CT scan is first done to ensure that the condition of the jawbone and the teeth is completely visualized. Also the number of implants required and how to place then, the angulations and any anatomic limitations are also reviewed.
  • Step 3: The Implant Surgery – Under local anesthesia the implants are placed with all the surgical planning done. The essential step is to ensure that implants are placed with minimal trauma and certain amount of fit called primary stability to ensure that a temporary prosthesis can also be delivered on the same day or in the consequent days.
  • Step 4: Healing Time –  Generally dental implants are made of titanium or alloys containing titanium. Titanium makes the implant extremely biocompatible or tissue friendly such that natural bone grows over it and they become a part of our body. This process generally takes 3-6 months depending on the patients bone density. During this period a patient gets a fixed temporary prosthesis to be able to chew and go about their daily life.
  • Step 5: Final Restorative process– during the final restorative process new scans or impressions are made and then sent to the lab. The temp prosthesis is reviewed and discussed if the patient was comfortable with the appearance and performance of the same. If yes the temp prosthesis aids in the fabrication of a final prosthesis.

Why Choose Restore dental Gurgaon for Full-Mouth Dental implants

Restore dental clinic, sector 66, Golf course extension road, Gurgaon has a specialist Prosthodontist and Implantologist ensuring transparent, detailed and thorough discussion of the whole process with one person. Unlike most other clinics where the implant surgeon is usually different from the doctor who is responsible for making the final prosthesis, we at Restore Dental, have no such hassle. Implant treatment usually requires one to retrospectively plan from the final prosthesis to the implant position to make sure the implants are not placed in a position which will cause issues later on. Therefore it is paramount to have a specialist in replacing missing teeth plan the surgical phase too. Our planning helps us in setting realistic expectations for our patients so that no surprises happen mid treatment.

Dr. Divyesh Mehta uses guided implant surgery where we digitally plan the surgical case using Artificial Intelligence and other tools and make sure the implants are placed with extreme precision, eliminating any human errors.

Remote Anchorage and zygomatic implants

At Restore Dental, Sector-66, Gurgaon we have a wide plethora of patients seeking full mouth dental implants. But in some patients due to atrophy of the bone of the jaws due to long term denture use, the vone available for implant placement is severly reduced. In such cases, we use remote anchorage solutions such as Palatal Implant placement, Golden quadrilateral concept (where we target the strong or cortical bone bases of the upper jaws to provide strong mechanical stability to our implants), Zygomatic implants ( implant placement in the cheek bones ) if the total bone area in the jaws is insufficient to house conventional implants and pterygoid implants ( to be able to give our patients the best biomechanical foundation).

These stratergies are best tailor made for each patient and their jaw and they ensure that the patients get the best possible solution depending on the current condition.

How long do full-mouth implants last?

With proper care and attention and regular follow ups dental implants can last for a long time. Usually patients with a bad oral hygiene and certain habits are at risk but these things are usually discussed in the initial consultation. We at Restore Dental, Sector 66, Gurgaon also have a robust follow up program to ensure our that any issues can be caught and rectified early.

COST FOR FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS

With full mouth dental implants, the cost depends on a variety of factors.

  1. No of implants– The number of implants usually depends on the available bone and the age of the patient. A patient in his late 70s and 80s might do well with just 4 implants per jaw, like the classic All on 4 treatment and similarly a patient in his 60s with the same need and more available bone would be advised to be get more implants. A considering factor also would be the type of teeth present in the opposing jaw which would influence treatment planning.
  2. Type of implants and bone density There are so many implant brands in the market that one has to make the choice with the best possible one in terms of implant surface treatment and design to be able to use the best possible one for a certain case. These factors also vary the cost of the treatment.
  3. Prosthetic material– The design and material of the final prosthesis depends on the space present between the jaws after the implant placement is done and the implants have integrated. The different types of prosthesis like Metal frame with ceramic Layering or Titanium frame with Zirconia overlay or a malo bridge with individual crowns depend on the type and or combination of fabrication process and the type of material, influencing the cost.

Full-Mouth Dental implants: Common Myths

Myth #1: Doing dental implants is a painful process. Dental implants are usually not a very painful process on their own. During the procedure the patient is administered local anesthesia to eliminate any pain. Afterwards the patient is prescribed painkillers which reduce pain significantly, making it quite comfortable

Myth #2: They are an expensive process– Due to the longevity of dental implants these are a cost effective procedure. The quality of life and freedom which they provide to patients with no natural teeth is unmatched. There are no restrictions to eating and usually are a process which are very cost efficient.

Myth #3: I can wait to get dental implants : Many patients view the body as an isolated system when in fact everything is interlinked. If the person is unable to chew food properly or is not able to eat fiber rich foods they will develop systemic conditions which become difficult to treat in the long run and make dental implant placement later on a tricky and risky procedure. Also the bone quality and quantity is also compromised by not having teeth which makes implants tricky to plan and execute.

CASE REPORT 2

A patient reached out to use with failing dentition. After CBCT it was decided to place 6 dental implants in the upper jaw. The surgical phase was completed and the patient was given a temporary prosthesis.

The benefit of having an in house prosthodontist is the use of modern digital techniques to design final prosthesis which doesnt take more than 3 appointments as opposed to the usual 5-7 appointments. In this case the temp prosthesis was evaluated and used for designing the final prosthesis which was made of milled titanium ( to improve strength of the prosthesis and prevent zircionia from breaking) in to an I shape and multilayered zirconia was bonded to it.
